THOUSANDS OF ASPIRANTS APPEARED IN IIMC ENTRANCE EXAM
Up to 4,000 students appeared in the All India common entrance examination conducted by Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) for the academic session 2012-2013.
The IIMC entrance examination is the sole criterion for admission to Post-Graduate Diploma courses in Journalism (English), Journalism (Hindi), Radio and Television Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations and Journalism (Oriya) offered by the Institute. The test took place simultaneously at 15 examination centre across India including Aizawl. A total of 5 candidates appeared in the entrance examination from (in) Aizawl centre which was conducted in the conference hall of Department of Information and Public Relations, Govt.of Mizoram. The 4,000 aspiring students compete for 184 seats in Journalism (English), 62 seats in Journalism (Hindi), 42 seats in Radio and Television Journalism, 70 seats in Advertising and Public Relations and 23 seats in Journalism (Oriya). At present, the institute has four centres with two new centre opening from this year at Kottyam and Jammu.
Shortlisted candidates in the written examination will be called for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview to be held at IIMC, New Delhi. Centre allotment for selected students will be made on merit basis. Classes for the different courses will commence in August, 2012.
IIMC is an autonomous organisation funded by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. It is an internationally known centre for training and research in mass communication. Last year, the institute started two centres at Aizawl and Amravati. The Aizawl centre began classes for Journalism (English) in the Mizoram University premises with 7 students from different states of the country. All the students are presently pursuing internship programme in reputed media industries like Deccan Chronicle, Hindustan times, Seven Sisters Post and Doordarshan Kendra.
