TheAssamRifles “the Friends of Hill People” today organized  a voluntary blood donation camp at theUnitHospitalof the 26 Assam Rifles to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the Statehood of Mizoram. The Camp was inaugurated by the Governor Shri Vakkom Purushothaman.

The Governor appreciated the Assam Rifles for their service to humanity through this noble cause and expressed hope that this camp will further motivate and inspire more and more people from all sections of the society to come forward and contribute towards this noble cause. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that conducting a blood donation camp is an ideal way to commemorate the day. Appreciating the contribution of the Assam Rifles towards the society, he further added that the Mizoram Range, Assam Rifles has kept a silent watch over the events in the state since its inception and has always lent a helping hand whenever needed.

It may be recalled that, responding to theAizawlCivilHospital’s emergency call for Blood Donation, the 26 Assam Rifles Battalion had donated 21 units of blood to theCivilHospitalon 10 Feb 2012. In order to further diffuse the emergency situation created because of the shortage of blood inAizawlCivilHospital, the Assam Rifles decided to organize the blood donation camp.

The Governor also flagged in the Cycle Expedition, which was organized by 40 Assam Rifles in commemoration of 25 years of statehood at the same venue. The Cycle Expedition comprising of one officer and ten other Ranks had started on 14 Feb 2012 from Parva in Lawngtlai District and terminated at Aizawl today.

Besides the DIG, 5 Officers and 52 Other Ranks of the Assam Rifles donated blood. The event was graced by eminent dignitaries from the Department of State Health Services, MJA and the MZP.
