Along with the rest of the country, the 10th National Voters’ Day (NVD) was celebrated in Lunglei District on the theme: ‘Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy’. The theme sets the tone for year-long activities which focus on voter education and renewal of citizens’ faith in the electoral process, said ECI in a release. This year marks an important milestone in the history of Indian democracy, as Election Commission of India (ECI) completes 70 years of its journey.
The Lunglei District celebration function was held at the DC Conference Hall with Lunglei District Election Officer and DC Pu V. Lalsangliana, IAS as the Chief Guest. Pu J. Miahlung, Election Officer chaired the function.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Election Officer urged the citizens of the District to compulsorily enroll themselves in the electoral roll, and to exercise their franchise in every election, including the Village Council Elections. He called upon parents and guardians of newly eligible voters to ensure their enrollment during the ongoing Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls. He also took the opportunity to thank NGOs, VCs, political parties and media persons for their proactive role in electoral literacy initiatives, and conduct of free and fair elections in the District. He also lauded the District Election Office team for successful conduct of the 2018 MLA Election and 2019 MP Election.

32 - Lunglei West - Pu Hmingthanhlua, Bazar-III, BLO
33 - Lunglei South - Pu K.Lalrinchhunga, Tawipui N-I, BLO
The National Voters’ Day (NVD) was first celebrated on January 25, 2011, to mark the Foundation day of Election Commission of India. The Election Commission of India, or ECI, was established on January 25, 1950. The main purpose of the NVD celebration is to encourage, facilitate and maximize the enrolment, especially for the new voters. Dedicated to the voters of the country, the Day is utilized to spread awareness among voters for promoting informed participation in the electoral process.
