The 21st January, 2020, marked the 49th Mizoram Police Raising Day. The day was celebrated in a grand function at GS Arya Mess, Police Headquarter. Shri Lalchamliana, Hon’ble Home Minister Mizoram graced the function as the esteemed Chief Guest. The Chief Guest delivered a speech wherein he stated that Mizoram Police is one of the best police forces in the country and quite commendable in their works. He also praised the police for launching various projects to improve the quality of its services for the people of Mizoram. The Chief Guest mentioned certain areas for further development of Mizoram Police which includes utilization of the VDP in daily policing activities. He also encouraged every policeman to maintain the nobility of the job and to maintain good discipline. On this auspicious day, the Chief Guest launched the Beat Police System and released the Mizoram Police Annual Report 2019. He also distributed prizes for the various competitions organised in celebration of the event and the best three (3) police stations in Mizoram.

21st January, 1972, the day on which Mizoram (then called the Mizo District) attained the status of Union Territory and on which day Pu Inderjit Verma, IPS took charge as the head of Mizoram Police i.e. IGP Mizoram, has been adopted as the Mizoram Police Raising Day. Initially, there were only four units in Mizoram Police and only 6 (six) police stations. The strength of police was only around 200 personnel.

Various competitions and programmes were organised for Police personnel and Police families for the first time to celebrate the Mizoram Police Raising Day 2020. These programs were organised to foster the spirit of camaraderie and fraternity among the police and their families, to maintain cordial police-public relationship and to guide the youths along the correct path. The various activities are :-

1. Football tournament was organised from Dt. 15/01/2020 and the final match was played at AR Playground on Dt. 18/01/2020. Pu Tawnluia, Hon’ble Dy. Chief Minister graced the final match as Chief Guest with Pu Robert Romawia Royte, Hon’ble Minister of State as the Guest of Honour.

2. Singing competition was organised on Dt. 16/01/2020 at GS Arya Mess, PHQ.

3. Shooting competition was organised on Dt. 17/01/2020 for police personnel at 3rd MAP Bn. firing range for men and women categories.

4. Painting competition was organised for students of Middle schools on Dt. 17/01/2020 and for High schools onDt. 18/01/2020.

5. Seminar on “Drug Trafficking & Abuse in Mizoram : Way Forward” was organised on Dt. 20/01/2020 at Vanapa Hall. Pu Lalchamliana, Hon’ble Home Minister graced the seminar as the Chief Guest. Papers were presented by six (6) highly learned resource persons. A good number of students from schools and colleges participated in the seminar.

6. Display of Mizoram Police weapon and equipment was organised at Vanapa Hall on Dt. 20/01/2020. About 1900 people visited the display.

7. Cultural programme was organised at Vanapa Hall on Dt. 20/01/2020 where Songs were heard from various singers and Mizo cultural dances were also performed.

8. To mark the occasion of Mizoram Police Raising Day 2020, Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organised at Police Headquarters and Unit Headquarters. As many as 311 police personnel donated their blood.
