Aizawl, dated 14th October 2026:Today, Dr. KC Lalmalsawmzauva, Adviser to Chief Minister (Implementation of Handholding Scheme) visited the turmeric processing unit, Mizoram Turmeric Processing Industry, Lushai Organics at IGC, Luangmual - one of the five selected crops for which support price has been fixed under the Mizoram Government's flagship scheme. He was accompanied by members of the Mizoram State Project Coordination Committee and the Chief Executive Officer, Implementation of Handholding Scheme.

Adviser to Chief Minister Dr. Lalmalsawmzauva said that the support price arrangement for five selected crops under the Handholding Scheme for upliftment of farmers is actually reaching farmers in different parts of Mizoram. He said that among these selected crops, ginger currently has the highest production. He said that in order to facilitate sale of other selected crops at better prices, it is important to have good processing facilities. For this purpose, the Mizoram Turmeric Processing Industry at IGC, Luangmual has been upgraded through the Handholding Scheme.

The Adviser said that to improve the condition of farmers, it is important to first create a good market for disposal of farm produce before guiding farmers to increase production. He said this can eliminate many potential problems, and expressed hope that the Mizoram Turmeric Processing Industry at IGC, Luangmual will prove to be an effective tool for creating a good market for turmeric.

Pu H. Lalchhanhima, CEO, Lushai Organics said that through the Mizoram Turmeric Processing Industry, around 2000 quintals of turmeric have been procured and processed since 2025. He said that these processed turmeric are packed in 50 grams and 200 grams packets and are also sold according to the requirements of customers. At present, Lushai Organics has 12 employees, and apart from turmeric powder, they produce 18 products from various turmeric-based products and other processed fruits and vegetables. During the visit of the Adviser to Chief Minister to Lushai Organics, IGC Luangmual, the proposed site for construction of a warehouse for storage of procured turmeric was also inspected.
