459/2026-2027
AIZAWL; OCTOBER 15, 2026: Mizoram Food & Allied Industries Corporation (MIFCO), established on December 19, 1989, organised a product launch exhibition this morning at the I&PR Auditorium, Treasury Square, Aizawl. The event marked the official rollout for sale of three newly canned local products designed for long-term preservation: Pineapple (Lakhuihthei), Bamboo Shoot (Rawtuai), and Baibing.
Dr. KC Lalmalsawmzauva, Adviser to the Chief Minister (Implementation of Handholding Scheme), graced the event as the Chief Guest. The function was chaired by Pu Lalthazuala Rawite, Chairman of MIFCO Ltd. The event was attended by the MIFCO Ltd. Board of Directors, Pi Zosangzuali, CEO, MzSRLM, Pu C. Lalremliana Chairman, MKVIB, Pu Jimmy Laltlanmawia Chairman, Mizoram State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, and Pu JK Dawngzuala Chairman, ZOHANDCO, along with representatives from the Commerce & Industries Department, the Planning & Programme Implementation Department, and MIFCO Ltd. staff.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Dr. KC Lalmalsawmzauva noted that MIFCO Ltd., which had been in a stagnant and neglected state for a long time, has been successfully revitalised to introduce three major products sourced directly from local farmers. He remarked that this milestone clearly reflects the dedication of the leadership and the hard work of the employees.
Dr. Lalmalsawmzauva emphasised the importance of a clear division of labor in any enterprise. He stated that when farmers and processors maintain distinct, well-defined roles without overlapping responsibilities, it inevitably yields more productive and profitable outcomes. He added that for Mizoram's delicious and healthy processed foods to penetrate larger commercial markets, attractive and professional packaging design is essential to capture consumer interest.
The Adviser to the Chief Minister further highlighted that for agriculture-driven development to succeed, a reliable and sustainable market with fair pricing must be established first. He noted that true, sustainable progress happens when production seamlessly follows a dependable market framework. He also urged farmers to actively pursue chemical-free, organic farming practices.
Additionally, Dr. Lalmalsawmzauva stressed the need to educate people on settled, sustainable farming methods to preserve the state's natural resources. If farmers adopt long-term planning on fixed lands, it becomes significantly easier for the government to develop infrastructure like proper connectivity and irrigation facilities. He also announced that the government is actively preparing to continue the procurement of five specifically selected crops under its flagship Handholding Scheme (Bana Kaih Scheme).
Presenting the technical report at the event, Pu H. Lalrochama, General Manager of MIFCO Ltd., revealed that the Chhingchhip processing center had been unable to manufacture canned products for 15 years. However, under the Handholding Scheme, ₹24 lakhs was utilised to repair and upgrade various machineries. As a result, the center has successfully produced 10,279 cans of Baibing, Pineapple, and Bamboo Shoot within the year 2026.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Pu Lalnunvula, Managing Director of MIFCO Ltd.
