All India Radio(AIR), Aizawl for the first time today organized the North East Traditional Music Festival at Vanapa Hall – Aizawl’s largest auditorium. Addressing the gathering of artists from all over the region, All India Radio, Addl. Director General C. Lalrosanga said that radio and television are two important media through which the rich cultural heritage of the region and its colorful legacy has been showcased not only in the region but across the entire country and even onto the international arena. He said that to save dying oral singing traditions of the region, AIR is embarking on an ambitious programme to store all such tapes in digital format so that future generations can access the rich musical history of the region and take pride in their cultural origins.
Cultural troupes comprising of singers, musicians and performing artists from all the seven states, except Sikkim participated and showcased their traditional musical instruments, their traditional dances and songs.
