AIZAWL, 1st October, 2026: The Aizawl District Administration organised a mass cleanliness drive at Lammual this morning from 8:00 AM, with the participation of various departments under Aizawl District.  Heads of Offices and staff from different departments cleaned their respective allotted areas of Lammual and its surrounding areas. The cleanliness drive was organised under the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, with the theme “Swachhata Hi Seva” and the slogan “Swatchhata Mein Shabag Swatchh Bharat,Vikshit Bharat).”

Addressing the gathering at the brief inaugural programme, Er. Lalhriatpuia, Deputy Commissioner of Aizawl District and Chairman of the District Level Coordination Committee on Swachhata Hi Seva, stated that achieving effective cleanliness must begin with a change in individual attitudes and mindsets. He emphasised that sustainable cleanliness cannot be achieved through compulsion alone; rather, it must become a habit and an integral part of everyone's daily life.He further mentioned that many visitors to Mizoram appreciate the state's traffic discipline and the cleanliness of its streets, and often share their positive experiences with others. However, the discovery of littered or neglected spots, commonly known as black spots, can create a negative impression and undermine these positive perceptions. He therefore urged all government employees present at the programme to take greater responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and to develop it as a regular habit at their workplaces, in their homes and in their respective localities.

Around 500 comprising Heads of Offices and staff members from 28 departments under Aizawl District participated in the mass cleanliness drive.

The brief inaugural programme was chaired by Pu Zoramsiama Hmar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Aizawl District. Pu Lalchawimawia, Senior Executive Engineer, RWD/PHED, administered the cleanliness pledge to the participants, after which Pi Lalnisaii, Assistant Commissioner, Aizawl District, delivered the vote of thanks. The cleanliness drive commenced immediately thereafter.
