Aizawl District Vigilance and Monitoring Committe held a meeting yesterday at the Conference Hall of DRDA, Aizawl under the Chairmanship of Mr. C.L. Ruala, MP(Lok Sabha). The meeting was attended by seven MLAs - Mr. K.S. Thanga, Mr. R. Selthuama, Mr. R.Lalrinawma,  Lt.Col. Z.S.Zuala , Mr. R.L. Pianmawia, Mr Lalduhawma  and Mr. K.Liantlinga. Besides them, Mr. C. Thanchhuma, DC Aizawl, Project Director, DRDA, Aizawl District and the representatives of Rural Development Dept, PWD, PHE, Soil&Water Conservation Dept. and  Social Welfare Dept were also present.

Addressing the meeting, Mr. Ruala said that development is a necessity and to ensure that such developmental  funds reach the correct beneficiaries in toto is the utmost duty of the officers. He added that monitoring of development programmes should not be done from the desk and visting such sites more often can accelerate the pace of  work. Further he requested the MLAs present, to bring out discrepancies if any and also review the works which were not satifactory.

The meeting was held to discuss various Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS)  funded by the Ministry of Rural Development such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(MGNREGS), Indira Awas Yojana(IAY), Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana(SGSY), Integrated Watershed Development Programme (IWDP), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana(PMGSY), Accelerated Rural Water Supply programme (ARWSP), Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) and National Social Assistance Programme(NSAP).

The financial and technical reports of the various schemes during 2009-10 were presented by the concerned officers and ways to improve the functioning of the various Schemes were also put forward by the MLAs.
