Siaha; the 10th July, 2020: Launching programme of Artificial Insemination in Piggery was conducted by Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, Siaha at DVO's office, in the forenoon of 11:30am, here at Siaha.
The launching programme was presided over by Dr. Sahlu Khailah, DVO and Shri. N. Zakhai CEM, MADC graced the programme as the Chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion; the Chief guest expressed his immense happiness over the successful launching of much awaited AI in pig programme, after facing many hardships along the way. He profusely thanked DVO, VOs & staff for their hardwork and dedication in making the project a reality and congratulated their efforts.
Dr. Zapaw Azyu, VO, District Veterinary hospital and Dr. Lalrengpuii Sailo, VO, District Veterinary Hospital gave power point presentation on the topic History and advantages of AI and AI process respectively.
AI Programme was first started way back in 2011 under Satellite Boar Semen station program in CBF Siaha. However, due to the outbreak of PRRS; the programme, unfortunately was not successful. A fresh start was made on the 23rd Feb 2019, when two piglets(landrace and yorkshire) were procured from the Department's farm at Lungpuizawl; and now the two piglets have reached maturity for carrying out AI. The first insemination in pig, by using semen of these two pigs was done on 3rd july,2020.
It is expected that AI in pig will improve the genetic resources of pig and eventually increase the meat production to meet the demands of the Siaha District.
