Aizawl, 15th September 2021: In continuation of the “Swarnim Vijay Varsh Celebrations”, the Aizawl Battalion under the aegis of Headquarters 23 Sector Assam Rifles and Headquarters IGAR (East) organized a Mini Marathon at A.R Ground, Aizawl and also across the state of Mizoram today. Pu R.Lalzirliana, Minister Power & Electricity who graced the occasion as Chief Guest flagged off the marathon from A.R.Ground Aizawl.

The Hon’ble Minister while addressing the gathering congratulated the Indian Army on the Golden Jubilee and recalled the sacrifice made by brave martyrs who laid down their lives to ensure victory in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War. He congratulated Assam Rifles for successfully conducting events to celebrate Swarnim Vijay Varsh and the role played by the force for the cause.

The event at Aizawl witnessed an enthusiastic participation of approximately 250 persons including local youth and all ranks of Assam Rifles. Brigadier Digvijay Singh, SM, Commander, 23 Sector AR, Colonel Rajesh Kumar Nayak, Commandant Aizawl Battalion and other dignitaries also attended the event. Top 10 runners were awarded Medals and Certificates by the Hon’ble Minister on completion of run.

Swarnim Vijay Varsh is being celebrated across the nation from 16 Dec 2020 to 16 Dec 2021 to mark the 50 years of Indian victory in 1971 Indo – Pakistan War. Celebration in Mizoram started on 13th September, 2021 with Sapling Plantation which was graced by Pu T.J.Lalnuntluanga, Hon'ble Minister of State for Environment, Forest & Climate Change. Around 150 saplings were planted on that day by all ranks of Assam Rifles, Ex-servicemen and students.
