Lunglei, 26 September 2025: As an initiative of the Deputy Commissioner, Lunglei under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, the Block Development Office of the Lungsen Aspirational Block today hosted an innovative programme titled "Be a BDO for a Day".

This programme is a follow-up to the "Be Deputy Commissioner for a Day" initiative successfully held on 27th August 2025 at Lunglei. Replicating the concept at the block level, today's event aimed to provide meritorious students with first-hand exposure to the responsibilities of a Block Development Officer (BDO), while instilling values of leadership, decision-making and community service.

Four meritorious students – P. Lalrinsanga, Class IX (Govt Lungsen High School); Danny Vanlalduata, Class X (Govt Lungsen High School); Marcus Malsawmzela Apeto, Class XI (Lungsen Senior Secondary School); and F. Ramengmawii, Class XII (Lungsen Senior Secondary School) – participated in the event. The students were picked up from the SDEO Lungsen Office, formally received by the BDO Pu Lalhruailiana Zote and staff, and given a room-to-room tour of various branches including MzSRLM, Aadhaar, Gym, Establishment, and MGNREGS.

The day-long programme included orientation on government schemes, simulations of decision-making at the BDO's desk, leadership exercises on crisis management, and a block planning workshop. Students also undertook field visits to key sites such as the Custom Hiring Centre under MzSRLM, a PMAY house and MGNREGS works, where they gained practical insights into grassroots governance.

The programme concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, during which the students shared their reflections. The BDO, in his address, highlighted honesty, hard work, and service as the guiding values of governance.

The initiative was facilitated by Pi Zothanpuii Hmar, Block Mission Manager, MzSRLM, with active support from staff of MzSRLM, MGNREGS and SDEO Lungsen.
