Lunglei the 14th March 2023 – Five CSR beneficiary patients from Lunglei & Hnahthial Districts who had undergone heart surgery at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai reached Lunglei safely last night.

The initiative is a continuation of the 3 days ‘FREE CARDIOLOGY & ONCOLOGY HEALTH CAMP’ led by Dr. J S N Murthy, Senior Cardiologist & Head of Cardiology, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai held at the Civil Hospital Lunglei during 10th – 12th November, 2022. Of the hundreds of patients who came forward during the Free Clinic last year, 7 patients in need of specialized treatment & surgery were identified. They were flown to Chennai on February 24th, and 5 patients were ultimately operated upon at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai. Their cost of operation, treatment, stay in the hospital and all travel expenditure were provided free of cost through Corporate Social Responsibility of Sri Shankara Heart Foundation, Mathew Foundation, Muthi Trust, Renyl Foundation and Mr. Subramaniam.

At a dinner held at the DC Bungalow last night to welcome home the patients, Lunglei Deputy Commissioner Pi Ramdinliani thanked and applauded the then incumbent DC Shri Kulothungan A, and Dr. J S N Murthy under whose joint leadership the Free CSR treatments were provided. She also advised the patients’ families to diligently continue with their medications as prescribed by the doctors.

The patients’ families gave reports of their stay and experience at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai. They heartily praised and thanked the team at the hospital for their kindness, care and sensitivity, and shared that the entire team, including doctors, nurses & others had gone beyond the call of their duty to give them the best possible treatment during their stay at the hospital. They thanked Shri Kulothungan A, Dr. J S N Murthy and the entire team for giving their children a better, healthier chance for the future. The five CSR beneficiary patients are all male, ranging in the ages of 2-14, and were suffering from serious complications that needed specialized treatments that are currently not available in Mizoram.
