Aizawl, the 12th October 2021 : Chief Electoral Officer, Mizoram Pu P.Jawahar, IAS today met with representatives of NGOs in the SAD Conference Hall, MINECO to brief them about on-going preparations for the 4-Tuirial (ST) Assembly Constituency Bye Election on 30.10.2021 and also discussed the present status of the various petitions submitted by NGOs and political parties demanding deletion of Bru Voters living in the Tripura Transit Camps before the upcoming Bye Election.

CEO Mizoram Pu P. Jawahar informed the NGO representatives that their petitions alongwith those submitted by the various political parties had been received by his office and duly forwarded to the Election Commission of India; and decision of ECI on the matter is awaited.

Further, in compliance with the existing ECI Guidelines, all preparations are in full swing to ensure a peaceful and fair bye election, he said.

In today’s meeting, CEO Mizoram Pu P. Jawahar also informed the NGO representatives that since the announcement of the 4-Tuirial (ST) Assembly Constituency Bye Election by the Election Commission of India on 28.9.2021, Model Code of Conduct had come into force. Hence, under the Manual of MCC, 2019 Chapter 20, point no 20.8.2, there stands a restrictive advisory on Ministers and sitting MPs/MLAs not to make promises or statements on religious or communal ground, even in the areas where MCC is not enforced, so as to maintain the purity of election process and to ensure peaceful, transparent and ethical election.
