Dated Aizawl, the 26th June, 2024: The International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking is observed today at Vanapa Hall, Aizawl. Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma graced the function as chief guest and Pi Lalrinpuii, Health Minister is guest of honour while Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, Excise & Narcotics Minister, the special guest.

In his speech, Pu Lalduhoma emphasized that Mizoram is at the forefront of the Golden Triangle of drugs in Asia, a network that has existed since the 17th century. Due to its position as an export route, the state has long experienced a significant influx of drugs and related substances. As supply increases, prices drop, making these substances more accessible to everyone. He stressed the importance of halting this illegal influx to safeguard the future of the younger generation. To improve efforts in reducing supply, he called on all citizens to get involved. While the government with its mechinary, along with central paramilitary forces, is doing everything possible, he highlighted that active cooperation from NGOs, churches, and every citizen is crucial for effective action.

The function is chaired by Dr. Renu Sharma, Chief Secretary. It is attended by Pu Lalthansanga Ralte, Environment Minister, Prof. Lalnilawma,  Horticulture Minister, Pu Lalmuanpuia Poonte, Adviser to Chief Minister, Lt. Col. Clement Lalhmingthanga and Prova Chakma MLA, officials, representatives of churches, NGOs and students attend the function.
