Lunglei the 20th August, 2022 – Chief Secretary of Mizoram, Dr Renu Sharma, who is on a maiden visit to Lunglei District, today held a meeting at the DC Conference Hall with all Heads of Offices in the District. She also visited Civil Hospital Lunglei, Anganwadi Pukpui, as well as AH&Vety and Fisheries sites near Lunglei town.

Lunglei Deputy Commissioner Pu Kulothungan A gave a presentation on a brief profile of Lunglei District and projects undertaken by various Departments in the District. The Deputy Commissioner reported major CSR interventions in the District such as procurement of 3 ambulances and 200+ lakhs Covid-19 related medical equipments, distribution of smartphones to 46 needy students, English learning program, setting up of 5 BALA (Building as Learning Aid) Anganwadis etc. He also reported that a unique program to bring government departments, schemes and services to remote areas called ‘Go To The People’ has been successfully implemented in the District, with the fourth edition slated for September. Various developments in the District such as Amrit Sarovar, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY),Jal Jeevan Mission, setting up of  Solid Waste Management Centre and Lunglei Municipal Council were also discussed at length in the meeting.

Lunglei SP Pu Rex Zarzoliana Vanchhawng reported that Lunglei District has a very low crime rate, and is, on the whole quite peaceful as with other parts of the State. He reported that the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel are doing a good job guarding the 107kms long Indo-Bangladesh border within Lunglei District, and that the Police and BSF routinely conduct joint patrolling along the border to contain & prevent incidences of cross-border human and drug smuggling.

Addressing the Head of Offices, Dr Renu Sharma expressed her appreciation for the diligent implementation of various projects and schemes by Departments in Lunglei District. She advised the officers to always put citizens’ welfare first, and to make efforts to find innovative and creative solutions to issues faced by citizens. She also emphasized on the importance of maintaining discipline at the workplace, and instructed all present to be punctual, maintain strict discipline, and to be patient and empathetic when dealing with the public. She instructed the officers not to hesitate in reporting any issues or bottlenecks faced by them in the course of their works, especially in implementing key schemes and projects.
