Dated Champhai, the 30th March, 2021: As part of ‘Clean, Beautiful & Healthy Champhai’ campaign, a town area village council initiative yesterday organised clean Tuipui river, the major source of livelihood whose origin is at the outskirt of Champhai. The clean-up drive was spearheaded by Pi Maria C.T. Zuali, Deputy Commissioner/Chairman, Clean, Beautiful & Healthy Champhai Committee.

The participants picked up plastics/polythenes wastes and other debris sedimented in the river which are considered as the major pollutants of the water bodies, highly toxic and unhygienic for drinking purposes. The community based clean-up drive was divided into 5 groups, each group led by department officer, cleaning Tuipui river and its affluents, mainly small brooks inside the town.

In addition, the participants were imparted awareness on the importance of waste management, its harmful impacts, necessary interventions and adequate steps needed at this point to help this campaign to accomplish its goal.
