Pi Shashanka Ala delivered an inaugural speech and urged the campaigners to use all means available for fighting HIV and syphilis. Stress should be given to no drug campaign, encouraging people to test their blood and ensuring no child is born with HIV, she said.
Officials from Health Department, World Vision India and line departments, health workers, ASHAs and representatives of NGOs attended this function chaired by Lawngtlai Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Lalthlamuana. Pi Lalchhanhimi Ralte, CDF, World Vision India gave a presentation on HIV status of Lawngtlai District, District AIDS Nodal Officer Dr S. Thaizi gave a brief overview of HIV and syphilis, and District Programme Manager (NHM) Lalkhawngaihdawngi Chinzah proposed a vote of thanks.
Mizoram State AIDS Control Society, Lawngtlai District Health Department and World Vision India will jointly carry out the HIV & Syphilis campaign in 35 villages of Lawngtlai District. General awareness, testing HIV and syphilis, ensuring medical care to the infected and preventing spread of the diseases are the main objectives of this campaign.
DC Lawngtlai Pi Shasanka Ala sanctioned 10 numbers of mini fridges and voltage stabilizers for 10 selected sub-centres within Lawngtlai District. Out of which, Khawmawi, Mampui and Paithar Sub-Centres were given first today.
The campaign is being carried out jointly by District AIDS Nodal Officer, World Vision India, Mobile ICTC, AHANA and ART Team. Five (5) villages have been covered so far, in which no case is detected out of 95 tests done.
