Deputy Chief Minister Pu Tawnluia this afternoon inaugurated a Multipurpose Hall constructed at a cost of Rs. 350 lakhs at MINECO, the state’s administrative and bureaucratic centre.
Speaking at the function the Deputy Chief Minister who also holds the Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation portfolio pointed that the mandate of the Department is not only limited to development of urban areas and urban infrastructure but improving the conditions of urban poor and helping them in all possible ways to alleviate them from poverty is equally accorded importance, he added. He highlighted several projects and schemes being implemented for the urban poor in the state including PMAY (Housing for All), NULM and BSUP.
Mizoram presently has 1440 Self Help Groups under NULM covering more the capital city Aizawl and 22 other towns. Under PMAY, 34,062 are slated to be constructed in the 23 urban habitations. During the nationwide lockdown in April this year the Department aided 5786 poor families in urban habitations providing financial and other measures through various interventions.
