Aizawl, the 13th May 2022 : Deputy Chief Minister Pu Tawnluia today graced Mizoram Cleanliness Competition 2021 Award Ceremony at Vanapa Hall which was organised by Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation Department as a part of its activities under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). Pu C. Lalmuanpuia, MLA; Vice Chairman, Veterinary, Fisheries & Sericulture Development Board also graced the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion Deputy Chief Minister Pu Tawnluia said that under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the urban habitations in Mizoram have seen marked improvements in cleanliness in the last 5 years through various initiatives and lauded the close cooperation with local bodies, NGOs and civil society and their invaluable contributions in this regard. He remarked that waste management and recycling have been included as selectable trades for beneficiaries under the state flagship programme – SEDP and reiterated the government’s commitment to cleanliness and waste management. He called upon the people and NGOs to continue to work together with the government in making Mizoram one of the cleanest states in the country. He lauded the innovative steps taken by Biate Town, the winner among Category III ( Other Towns) who have won national recognition for their past performances.

Aizawl City and 27 Notified Towns were categorised in three categories under Mizoram Cleanliness Competition 2021 as follows

Category 1- Aizawl City (Aizawl Municipal Corporation - 19 Wards)
Category 2- District Headquarters (10 District Headquarters)
Category 3- Other Urban Towns (17 Urban towns)

1st Prize: Ward XVIII- Rs. 2,22,222 with Certificate
2nd Prize: Ward III - Rs. 1,11,111 with certificate
3rd Prize: Ward X - Rs. 77,777 with certificate

Category-II (District Headquarters):
1st Prize- Saitual – Rs. 2,22,222 with certificate
2nd Prize- Lunglei – Rs. 1,11,111 with certificate
3rd Prize- Mamit - Rs. 77,777 with certificate

Category-III (Other Urban Towns):
1st Prize- Biate – Rs. 2,22,222 with certificate
2nd Prize- Ngopa – Rs. 1,11,111 with certificate
3rd Prize- West Phaileng – Rs. 77,777 with certificate

Best Local Council
1st Prize- Laipuitlang Local Council- Rs. 55,555 with certificate
2nd Prize- Salem Veng Local Council – Rs. 33,333 with certificate
3rd Prize- Republic Vengthlang Local Council – Rs. 11,111 with certificate

Best Village Council

In the afternoon Swacchta Conclave 2022 was held at the same venue where an presentations on sanitation practice in Aizawl City, SMB(U), Swacch Survekshan, ODF Plus, garbage free city & ban on Single use plastics and best practices in waste management were given by officials.
