These included 2 newly constructed EMRSs in Mizoram, namely, EMRS Bilkhawthlir (Bilkhawthlir RD Block, Kolasib District) and EMRS Noaohtlah (Siaha RD Block, Siaha District), and also newly sanctioned EMRSs at 5 places in Mizoram, namely, Lungsen (Lungsen RD Block, Lunglei District), Khawbung (Khawbung RD Block, Champhai District), Khawzawl (Khawzawl RD Block, Khawzawl District), Sawleng (Darlawn RD Block, Aizawl District), and West Phaileng (West Phaileng RD Block, Mamit District).
Smt. Lalrinpuii, Hon’ble Minister of Social Welfare, Tribal Affairs, Women & Child Development; Shri R. Lalášhazuala, Deputy Commissioner Lunglei, and other officials joined the ceremony virtually from the Video Conference Hall, DC's Office, Lunglei District, Lunglei.
Smt. Lalrinpuii, Hon’ble Minister of SW&TA&WCD, conveyed her sincere gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Minister of Tribal Affairs, and other NESTS officials and dignitaries for bringing the aspirations of the State Government, numerous tribal students, and parents to life. According to her, this will help tribal students in the state grow holistically.
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is implementing the Central Sector Scheme of Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) to provide quality education to the tribal children. Earlier, EMRS was a component under Article 275(1) of the Constitution. Under the new scheme, the government decided to establish one EMRS in every block having more than 50% ST population and at least 20,000 tribal persons (as per census 2011). The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), an autonomous organisation, has been created to manage and implement the scheme of EMRS. The Mizoram EMRS Society under the Department of Social Welfare, Tribal Affairs, Women & Child Development is in charge of managing the schools in Mizoram. Eleven of the seventeen EMRSs that NESTS has sanctioned for Mizoram are currently functional, with the other six still in the development stage.
