Lt Gen Rameshwar Roy, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, Director General Assam Rifles is in Aizawl as part of a three days visit from 09th to 11th Oct 2011. He will be interacting with Hon’ble Chief Minister of Mizoram & will be visiting the new Assam Rifles location at Zokhasang also. He will review the security situation of the state and the arrangements for border guarding in light of its geostrategic importance with the Headquarters Mizoram Range Assam Rifles.
The General is of the opinion that “Mizoram is a model for peace and development in the North East and will serve as a model for other disturbed states in the country. The history of Mizoram is intimately linked with the history of Assam Rifles, who have been the Friends of the Hill People for 176 years.”
The General is accompanied by his wife, Mrs Luxmi Roy, who is the President of the Assam Rifles Wives Welfare Association, an organization that aims to enrich, empower and educate the families of the Assam Rifles troops. She will interact with the wives and families of the jawans in Mizoram. “Though life is tough for the jawans at far-flung border posts, their families are a major source of strength and motivation. ARWWA is a benevolent organization that takes care of their needs and aspirations” , the president said.
