Following the memorandum submitted by the Government of Mizoram on compensation for victims of the recent cyclonic storm hit areas in the state, Inter-Ministerial Team arrived at Aizawl today to further discuss the matter and to visit the affected sites.

Inter-Ministerial Team led by Lokesh Jha, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs held a meeting with senior officials of the state government at the State Guest House Conference Hall this afternoon. Disaster Management & Rehabilitation Department made a presentation of the affected areas, after which Team members asked relevant questions and details regarding the various disasters. According to the DM&R reports, altogether 3999 families have been rendered homeless, 10127 housed destroyed, 4 persons dead and 11 people seriously injured. Suggestion has been made by the concerned state departements that as the affected areas are the most prone to be hit by cyclones and hailstorms, a proper housing colony may be constructed to accomodated the homeless families. Estimates for housing colony amounting to Rs.2,88,970/-, death gratuity of Rs.1 lakh and aid for injured persons at Rs.76,000/- each was also  discussed with the Inter-Ministerial Team.

The other Inter-Minsiterial Team Members are A.K.Sood, Jt. Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, DR. Ramanand, Sr. REsearch offcier, Planning Commission, Y.C.Sharma, Jt. Director, Ministry of Finance and Dr.S.K.Biswas, Director, Ministry of Agriculture. Team members, accompanied by concerned state officials, will be visiting nearby affected areas like Bukpui, Thingsulthliah & Tlungvel tomorrow.
