133/2026-2027
Lunglei, 1 June 2026: A meeting was held today to discuss the conduct of "Be Deputy Commissioner for a Day 2.0", an initiative led by Lunglei Deputy Commissioner Pi Navneet Mann. The programme is designed to provide students with firsthand exposure to the functioning of the Deputy Commissioner's Office and to inspire them to take up responsible leadership roles in the future.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Pi Navneet Mann in her office chamber, was attended by officials from the DC Office as well as representatives from the Education and Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Departments. Participants reviewed the proposed programme schedule and deliberated on various arrangements necessary for its successful implementation.
The first edition of "Be Deputy Commissioner for a Day" was successfully conducted on 27 August 2025, involving six meritorious students selected from various schools. Following its success, the initiative was also extended to Block Development Offices (BDOs) across the district under the title "Be BDO for a Day". For the second edition, ten students from Classes IX and X studying in schools within Lunglei town will be selected. In addition, two students from Classes VI to XII will be given an opportunity to participate through a special Wildcard Entry, under which interested students may submit their entries and two participants will be selected from among them.
As per the tentative programme schedule, the twelve selected students will arrive at the DC Office on 17 June 2026 at 9:30 a.m. in the Deputy Commissioner's official vehicle. They will be introduced to the various responsibilities and functions of the Deputy Commissioner and will visit different office sections, interact with officials, and observe the day-to-day administration of the district. The students will also attend departmental presentations made to the Deputy Commissioner, interact with media personnel, and visit ongoing developmental initiatives such as the Health ATM, Cosmic Class, and Enumeration activities under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls, 2026. Throughout the programme, the participants will be given opportunities to engage with officials and journalists while assuming the role of a Deputy Commissioner.
The initiative is being organised under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) as part of efforts to protect and empower students against substance abuse. Through this experience, students will gain a deeper understanding of the functioning of the DC Office, the daily responsibilities of a Deputy Commissioner, and the coordination required with various government departments and the public. The programme is expected to serve as a valuable learning experience, motivating students to pursue their aspirations while reinforcing the importance of staying away from drugs and other harmful substances in order to achieve their goals.
