District Level Consultation Meeting was held at the Lunglei DC Conference Hall yesterday to deliberate upon ‘Mapping of Science & Technology needs of States/UTs’. Organized by Mizoram Science, Technology & Innovation Council (MISTIC), the meeting was held through Video Conference with Additional DC Pu R.Vanrengpuia chairing at Lunglei side and Pu Samuel Lalmalsawma, Senior Scientific Officer, MISTIC chairing at Aizawl.

Major Departments within the District such as Agriculture, Horticulture, PWD, Revenue, Rural Development, etc Heads of educational Institutions and NGOs were present at the meeting.

Pu Samuel Lalmalsawma, Senior Scientific Officer, MISTIC explained that  ‘Mapping of Science & Technology needs of States/UTs’ is a Central Government initiative under the Ministry of Science and Technology and that the main aim of the exercise is to document and map issues and challenges faced by Government Departments, and then further plan and implement Science & Technology intervention wherever possible.

The District officials present spoke about their respective departments' profile in regard to Science & Technology under four broad points:

1) Overview of the sector/Department (Status, potential etc)

2) Issues, Gaps and challenges

3) Need for Research & Development

4) Possibilities of Science & Technology Interventions.

District officials spoke about the need for research based cultivation, a detailed District Vulnerability Mapping for disaster management, the need for faster internet services throughout the District, data sharing for more effective geo-tagging, 3D Mapping of terrain etc.
