231/2026-2027

Lawngtlai, 14th July 2026: A meeting of the District Level Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) and Operation Jericho Committee was held today at 2:00 PM in the Deputy Commissioner's Conference Hall, Lawngtlai, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Shri Donny Lalruatsanga.

Welcoming the members, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme aimed at creating awareness on the harmful effects of drug abuse. He informed the meeting that a grant of ₹10 lakh was sanctioned by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in 2025, which has been utilized for conducting awareness programmes through colleges, NGOs and churches. He further highlighted that Operation Jericho, an initiative of the Government of Mizoram, has been implemented effectively in the district and that sustained efforts are being made to achieve the goal of making Lawngtlai a Drug-Free District.

The Committee acknowledged that Operation Jericho has significantly contributed to reducing drug-related activities in the district. Members appreciated the decision to continue the operation in Lawngtlai District for an additional three months even after its completion at the State level. However, as the Government of Mizoram has not yet decided to extend the operation further, the Committee resolved that Operation Jericho may remain temporarily suspended and that its continuation may be reviewed after the Furpui festival.

The meeting also discussed the proposed Salvation Camping, which had earlier been planned jointly by the District Level NMBA, DRS and CYLA for this year. As the expected resource persons were unavailable, the Committee resolved to hold the programme in February 2027 instead.

The meeting was attended by members of the District Level Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Operation Jericho Committee. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Deputy Commissioner.
