AIZAWL; the 14th November,2024:  The Mizoram State Disaster Management Authority (MSDMA), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and Ministry of Home, GoI jointly organized “State Level Mock Exercise on Flood and Landslide in Mizoram" Debriefing meeting at the Conference Hall, Mizoram Legislative Assembly Secretariat Annexe, here in Aizawl, today at 2:30Pm. DM&R Minister Pu K. Sapdanga graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Speaking at the occasion, Pu K. Sapdanga expressed his satisfaction with the successful conduct of the mock drill on flood and landslide disaster management in Mizoram. He appreciated the efforts of various stakeholders and profusely thanked the various departments under the Government of Mizoram and agencies under the Government of India, local councils, and the public. He stressed the importance of preparedness and learning from the mock drill to enhance disaster management capabilities. Additionally, he highlighted the need for continued preparedness and conduct of mock drills to ensure effective disaster management. He also looked forward to conducting mock drills on other disasters more often in the years to come.

The debriefing meeting was chaired by Brig. Ravinder Gurung (Retd), Sr. Consultant, (ME&IRS), NDMA, GoI. District DDMA officials participated in the meeting via video conference. DDMA Chairman and District Deputy Commissioners and head observers presented their reports on the conduct of the mock drill, lessons learned, and recommendations. Chief Observer Pu PC. Lallawmsanga IPS (Retd), Former Principal Secretary, DM&R, also shared his observations and recommendations.

Brigadier Ravinder Gurung, a retired senior consultant of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of the Government of India, shared his comments on the Table Top Exercise and Mock Drill conducted in Mizoram. He mentioned that he has visited several states in India and has not seen a civil hospital as clean as Aizawl Civil Hospital. He commended Mizoram for being one of the top states in India in terms of disaster management and preparedness. He also appreciated the reports from the DDMA chairman and observers, and gave pertinent suggestions to improve their disaster response skills. He emphasized that the mock drill will help them to respond effectively during disasters and will be very useful in the future.
