ECI Issues additional Instruction on Use of Vehicles by Political Parties and Candidates during Elections

In response to various clarifications received from CEOs regarding grant of permits for vehicles to be used by the office bearers of Recognised Political Parties for electioneering purpose. The Election Commission of India added the following provision to para no. 4(e) of its letter No. 464/L&O/2023/EPS (Use of Veh.) dated 26.06.2023.

“CEO may issue permit for vehicles that can move throughout the State for use of office bearers of recognized political parties for electioneering purpose only. For States having more than 100 Assembly Constituencies, the CEO may grant permits for maximum 5 vehicles and for remaining States/UTs, for maximum 3 vehicles to recognized political parties. The expenditure on these vehicles shall be incurred by the political party and not by the candidate.”
