Dated Aizawl, the 8th June, 2026: The Secretary of the Election Commission of India (ECI), Shri Binod Kumar, and Director Ms. Shubhra Saxena arrived in Mizoram today on a two-day official visit. The ECI officials convened a review meeting with election officials from Aizawl district at the Planning & Programme Implementation Department Conference Hall to assess the progress of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Roll in Mizoram and to deliberate on the measures already undertaken, as well as future strategies for the successful completion of the exercise in the State.

Addressing the attendees, Ms. Shubhra Saxena explained the meaning, objectives, and process of the SIR exercise. She emphasized that SIR is a sensitive and important exercise that requires utmost diligence and care; therefore, she urged the officials to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Constitution of India and the Representation of the People Act, 1950, so as to ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral roll while ineligible persons are excluded from it. Furthermore, Ms. Shubhra highlighted that Mizoram shares a long and porous international border, and urged the officials to exercise greater vigilance against illegal migrants and fraudulent practices, and to take all necessary precautionary measures while carrying out the exercise.

Mizoram's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ms.Garima Gupta also spoke on the occasion and she called upon the officials to work with a strong spirit of cooperation and unity, to be more mobile, and to consistently support the Booth Level Officers (BLOs). She also conveyed her best wishes to all officials for the successful completion of the ongoing SIR exercise in Mizoram.

The meeting was chaired by Ms. Shubhra Saxena. Among those present were Mizoram CEO Ms. Garima Gupta, Aizawl District Election Officer (DEO) and Deputy Commissioner Er. Lalhriatpuia, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and other election officials of the State.
