Aizawl,22nd September 2023: A one-day Training of Information & Public Relations Officers for General Election to Mizoram Legislative Assembly 2023 was held in the I & PR Auditorium, Aizawl today.

In the inaugural session, the keynote address was delivered by Addl. Chief Electoral Officer Shri H. Lianzela who stressed on the importance of Universal Adult Franchise in a democracy like India and mentioned that the ECI has been conferred independence and exclusive power by the Constitution to uphold Democracy. The intention of ECI is not to regulate the media, but rather to give importance to compliance of rules by media houses, he added. Stating the fact that the responsibility of Government media is to create awareness and ensure objectivity & neutrality, he requested the officers to disseminate factual and voter-centric information at all times. The Addl. CEO also urged the trainees to join forces with the SVEEP activities to increase voters' turnout in the coming state election.

It was also mentioned in the programme that 50% of all Polling Stations is to be equipped with web-casting facilities to facilitate transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

 The inaugural programme was chaired by Shri Henry C Lalrawnkima, Dy CEO & State Training Coordinator. State Level Master Trainers Smt. Dorothy Muansangi, Shri Victor Lalawmpuia and Smt. Zoramdini presented lectures on various topics related to election and media matters. The training was concluded with closing remarks and vote of thanks by Smt Mina Zoliani, Dy Director, I & PR.
