Aizawl, the 25th November 2021: Electoral Roll observer for Lunglei District Pu K. Lalthawmmawia, IAS visited Lunglei District in connection with the ongoing Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls, 2022.

A meeting was held with the Observer at Lunglei DC Conference Hall yesterday with EROs, AEROs, NGOs, political parties and media persons to discuss the Roll Revision and related issues. Shri Kulothungan A, Deputy Commissioner, Lunglei District chaired the meeting.

Addressing the gathering, Pu K. Lalthawmmawia underlined the need to ensure enrollment of all new voters with reference to qualifying date of 01/01/2022, as well as inclusion of all other left out eligible voters. He also appealed to all the representatives of political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) so as to ensure a clean and healthy electoral roll for the District. “We want to foster a constructive working relationship with ground level political functionaries so as to have a healthier and more participative democracy at the grassroots level,” he stated. He also commended the efforts of the DEO Lunglei & team in raising awareness under various Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiatives.

The special summary revision to enlist all eligible voters currently not having their names in the photo electoral rolls began from November 1 and will continue till November 30.The final publication of the electoral roll will be done on January 15 next year.

According to the draft roll released on November 1, the total number of electors in the District stands at 95,213 (males – 47,327, females – 47,886).
