Aizawl the 14th November 2022 : The IBM Skillsbuild Project – College Chapter which was inaugurated on 31st October 2022 at Govt. Aizawl North College by the honorable Deputy Commissioner and District Skill Committee (DSC) Chairperson of Aizawl District Dr.LalriatzualiRalte,IAS in the presence of Director of LESDE, Pi Angela, and the District Labour Employment Officer and Member Secretary DSC, Aizawl, Pu VanlalhruaiaSailo. The project is a partnership between DSC Aizawl and IBM SKillsbuild, under a Letter of Understanding Signed by the Govt. of Mizoram and CSRBOX. The two-week implementation drive for phase one colleges was completed in 10 colleges on 11th November 2022. More than 3500 students participated and around 2000 students completed the registration process in the portal. The School Chapter for the same will be inaugurated on 28th November 2022 at Govt. Mizo High School. The project as a whole is intended to benefit almost Ten Thousand youths and students in the district.


The IBM Skillsbuild project, Aizawl is an upskilling and employment support program launched by the District Skill Committee (DSC), Aizawl district. Through the CSR initiative, the world technical giant IBM will help the youth in the district upskill themselves through more than 85000 courses and gain a world-class certificate issued by IBM. The certificates have global acceptance and can be used worldwide by the youth of Mizoram. The platform has been made available to the youths in Mizoram “Free of Cost” with a Letter of Understanding signed between IBM Global, the DSC Aizawl District, and CSRBOX – the implementing agency, which otherwise is sold to private universities at higher rates. The DSC, Aizawl is the first state to implement the initiative in the entire North East India.


The project helps in implementing the NEP 2020, and Skill India Mission at the College level. All the registered students will be receiving lifelong upskilling and placement support. Out of the ten Colleges in phase one Mizoram Christian College has registered more than fifty percent of students into the platform and has become the best performer. More Colleges will be included during phase 2 implementation. Miss. LH Zothanmawii, a student from Mizoram Christian College has been selected for receiving an internship from IBM after competing with candidates from the other ten colleges.


The project was initiated and managed by Miss. Akshaya Jalasteen, Mahatma Gandhi National Fellow and DSC member for Aizawl District from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, with the satisfaction of the DSC, Aizawl District Chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Aizawl District and the Department of Labour Employment Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Pi R Lalrinzuali, Sub deputy Commissioner, of Aizawl District is the Nodal officer for the project. The sessions were conducted by Mr. Rohit Rajput, Sr. Manager, and Mr. Shubham Naskar, Assistant Manager from IBM Skillsbuild.
