46 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 23 Sector Assam Rifles today organised an Assam Rifles Ex-Servicemen Rally at Battalion HQ 46 Assam Rifles in Aizawl. Governor of Mizoram Lt. Gen. Nirbhay Sharma PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd.) graced the event as Chief Guest.

Governor Lt. Gen. Nirbhay Sharma (Retd.) during his speech congratulated the Assam Rifles for their effort towards the welfare of Ex-Servicemen and for the overall peace of the State. He said that different organisations concerning Ex-Servicemen should work as a team and contribute collectively to the society. As they are located in almost every parts of the state, he said they are greatly poised to be catalyst for change because of their wide exposure and secular outlook. Having served the nation in uniform for a long time, he asked them to consider their tenure after retirement as a second innings to pay back the society. He said that the North East Region alone has more than 200 ethnic groups for which not every ethnic group can have its separate state, thus urging them be messenger of secular values.  He also said that they can help in propagation of Hindi, healthy lifestyle, imparting skill development and grooming their children for the armed forces. He also asked them to make use of different schemes available for self-entrepreneurship under the State and Central government.

Meanwhile, Brig. MS Mokha, SM, DIG 23 Sector Assam Rifles welcomed all the participants and also highlighted some of the grievances of the Ex-Servicemen that the rally aims to address. A felicitation ceremony of Veer Naris and gallantry award winners then followed the Rally.
