305/2026-2027

Dated Aizawl, 19 August 2026: Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department, Pu B. Lalchhanzova, launched the Indane EXTRALITE NOW FTC gas cylinder for public use at the State Guest House, Chaltlang.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova said that it was a welcome development that IOCL had introduced the Indane EXTRALITE NOW FTC gas cylinder, which can be purchased at any time. He expressed hope that the new cylinder would help reduce the practice of buying LPG through illegal “black-market” channels caused by shortages of cooking gas. The Minister also clarified that, as the Indane EXTRALITE NOW FTC cylinder is not being provided as a subsidy under the Mizoram Government, its price will be market-based, depending on the needs and prevailing market conditions.

Pu B. Lalchhanzova said that the launch of the Indane EXTRALITE NOW FTC cylinder would not reduce the quantity of LPG cylinders supplied to Mizoram by IOCL. He added that the government continues to take steps to ensure that people do not face difficulties in obtaining cooking gas.

The Minister also stated that efforts are continuing to make the Mualkhang Gas Bottling Plant operational. The plant is planned to have the capacity to produce around 8000 gas cylinders per day.

Pu B. Lalchhanzova further said that ensuring energy security is important for Mizoram because of its strategic geographical location, the transportation difficulties caused by heavy rainfall, the ongoing KMMTTP project, the changing political situation in South Asia, and various other factors. He added that efforts are underway to establish an oil depot in Mizoram.

The Indane EXTRALITE NOW FTC gas cylinder has been designed to be easier and more convenient to use. It is lighter than a conventional gas cylinder and is made in such a way that the level of gas remaining inside can be seen. This makes it easier for consumers to know when the cylinder needs to be refilled.

The new cylinder is a 10-kg composite cylinder made of fibreglass. It is designed to be resistant to rust and is also expected to be safer against fire-related hazards.

Customers wishing to register for and refill the Indane EXTRALITE NOW FTC cylinder can do so through the IndianOil ONE app and the IndianOil customer website (cx.indianoil.in). Steps are also being taken to enable booking through WhatsApp. The initial registration price is around ₹4,900, while the refill price is expected to be around ₹1,800. At present, the cylinder will be supplied by MIZOFED and Vanbuangi Agency.

At today's launch programme, IndianOil CGM (LPG), IOAOD, Pu Amarjyoti Bordoloi, and FCS&CA Director Pi Saizikpuii also delivered speeches. Pu Z. Lhungdim, State-level Coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks and concluded the programme.
