The Government strongly condemns the ambush of the convoy of the Assurances Committee comprising of three MLAs of the Legislative Assembly - Deputy Chief Whip Pu R. L. Pianmawia, Pu Lalthanliana and the lone woman legislator and Chairperson of the Mizoram Women Commission Pi Vanlalawmpuii Chawngthu, this morning at around 9:00 AM between Tinghmun and Zokhawthiang by suspected cadres of Hmar Peoples’ Convention (Democratic). The government expresses profound sorrow at the death of three brave policemen – Sub-Inspector Zoramthara Khawlhring, OC Sakawrdai, Constable Hmangaihmawia and Driver Lalchuailova in the ambush by the militants and strongly deplores this ghastly killing of security personnel in cold blood and the wounding of six other people including four policemen. The government condemns in the strongest terms, this attack on the Assurances Committee which was touring these areas to look at the pace of development. The government consoles the bereaved families and shares their sorrows and prays to the Almighty to give solace to their families. It wishes the six wounded people, a speedy recovery and will be bearing all the expenses for their treatment.
