Aizawl, the 11th August 2021: This evening, Brig(Dr) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) was sworn in to take additional charge as Governor of Mizoram, in addition to his normal duties as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan in Aizawl. This appointment from the President of India is an interim arrangement during the absence of Governor Haribabu Kambhampati, who is currently on leave.

Brig B.D Mishra (Retd.) was administered the oath of office by Justice Michael Zothankhuma, Judge on behalf of the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. The Warrant of Appointment of Brig B.D Mishra (Retd.) as the Governor of Mizoram was read out by Shri. Lalnunmawia Chuango, Chief Secretary. With this appointment, Brig B.D Mishra (Retd.) has effectively become the 23rd Governor of the state since 1987. The official Photograph session was held after the ceremony at the upper lawn, Raj Bhavan.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, Shri Tawnluia, Deputy Chief Minister, Speaker Shri Lalrinliana Sailo, Council of Ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP, leaders from political parties, leaders of the leading NGOs.

Brig B.D Mishra (Retd.) was born on 20th July 1939 in Kathauta, Bhadohi District, United Provinces of British India(Present-day Uttar Pradesh). He is married to Smt. Neelam Mishra with the couple having one son and one daughter. Brig B.D Mishra has an MA from Allahabad University, an M.Sc from Madras University and a PhD from Jiwaji University, Gwalior. He also has 5 years’ postgraduate and graduate-level teaching experience in the College of Combat at Mhow and in Defence Services Staff College at Wellington. He also holds an LL.B. degree from the University of Delhi.

Before his appointment to the Governor of Mizoram, Brig B.D Mishra (Retd.) is the incumbent Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. Mishra retired from the Indian Army on 31 July 1995, after a career that began as a permanent regular infantry officer, on 17 December 1961. As a military officer, he is highly respected for having not only been involved in several critical operations but also fought for the country at the forefront of the battlefields on three occasions that includes Sino-Indian War, Indo-Pakistani War 1965 and Bangladesh Liberation War. During his service years, Mishra as the commander of NSG Counter Hijack Task Force, received the Prime Minister's appreciation for his role in ending the hijack crisis by saving the lives of all 124 passengers and the crew of a hijacked Indian Airlines at Raja Sansi Airfield, Amritsar on April 24, 1993.

Upon his arrrival at Mizoram at  Mualpui Helipad (2:30 pm), the Governor was received by Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga and Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana. Deputy Chief Minister Pu Tawnluia and Minister of Agriculture Pu C. Lalrinsanga welcomed the Governor designate at Raj Bhavan.
