Aizawl, 2nd December 2024: Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati today held a discussion at Raj Bhavan at 11:00 AM with Health & Family Welfare Minister Ms. Lalrinpuii, Adviser to the Chief Minister (Finance & Planning) Mr. TBC Lalvenchhunga, ZMC Director Dr. John Zohmingthanga and Dr. Haroon M. Pillay, Neurosurgeon from Silverline Hospital, Kochi, regarding the establishment of a Neurosurgery Department at Zoram Medical College (ZMC).
Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati emphasized the importance of creating a systematic approach to effectively utilize CSR funds. He highlighted the need for reaching out to various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) to secure their support in education, healthcare, and other sectors through their CSR contributions. Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati also mentioned that the Prime Minister has urged PSUs to allocate their CSR funds generously for the benefit of Northeast states and also stressed the necessity of devising efficient ways to mobilize these funds, he stated that this is a critical step to ensure proper utilization and development.
Health Minister Ms. Lalrinpuii stated that efforts are continuously being made to improve healthcare services, mentioning ongoing initiatives for the establishment of a Neurosurgery Department at Zoram Medical College (ZMC). Apart from this, she also highlighted the importance of further developing facilities such as a Cardiothoraco Vascular Surgery OT Unit, an IVF Centre and other necessary units at Zoram Medical College. The Health Minister expressed gratitude for the Governor’s support and dedication to strengthening health infrastructure, emphasizing that such contributions are crucial for achieving better healthcare outcomes.
During the meeting, the urgent need to establish a Neurosurgery Department at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) to meet the healthcare demands of the people of Mizoram was thoroughly discussed. It was noted that there are no significant obstacles at the initial stage and the necessary financial requirements and a detailed project proposal were reviewed and approved. The meeting decided to approach Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) for CSR funding, with their commitment to actively pursue the proposal to secure the required support.
