AIZAWL; the 5th August, 2024: Dr.Hari Babu Kambhampati benignly graced the celebratory programme of International Leopard Day, held at Conference Hall of Dept. of Education, Mizoram University with a theme " Protect the Elusive"
The function was organised by Department of Zoology and sponsored by Society for the Preservation of Endangered Carnivores and their International Ecological Study (S.P.E.C.I.E.S) leh Riahrun Tours.
Speaking on the occasion Dr.Hari Babu Kambhampati reminded the audience that the Mizoram was blessed with incredible natural heritage and that it was the responsibility of the people of Mizoram to protect it for future generations.
The Governor described the clouded leopard as a magnificent creature with enigmatic beauty and elusive nature, holding a special place in the region's biodiversity. They symbolized the pristine wilderness that the region was fortunate to call home. However, Governor also noted that the clouded leopard stood as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced in conserving wildlife amidst growing threats.
He highlighting the need for concerted efforts to protect not only the clouded leopard but also other species sharing its habitat. He mentioned that Mizoram had made significant strides in wildlife conservation, with the state's forests teeming with life and conservation initiatives setting examples for others.
The Governor emphasized the need to continue strengthening efforts, including enhancing protected areas, investing in research and monitoring, and fostering community involvement. He stressed the importance of education and awareness in inspiring a new generation of conservationists.
The Governor gratefully acknowledged the unsung heroes of wildlife conservation, including forest guards, researchers, and local communities, and expressed his gratitude to those contributing to clouded leopard conservation.
He concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of protecting wildlife for a healthier, more balanced world and encouraged continued collaboration for the protection of the natural world.

In today's programe, Governor also distributed Prizes to the winners of online slogan Writing competion premised on a theme “Conservation of Clouded Leopard in Mizoram”.
The winning individuals are:
1st- Joseph Lalchhanchhuaha,
2nd- Mesak B. Laltlanchhuaha and 3rd- H. Zothanpuia.
Vice Chancellor of MZU, Dean of School of Life sciences, PCCF, EF&CC and HoD, Department of Zoology,MZU also delivered speeches at this occasion.
