Aizawl, the  21st February 2022Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati had interacted with the leaders of the Presbyterian Church of Mizoram, the largest church denomination in Mizoram at the Raj Bhavan, this afternoon. 


After a brief introduction from his guests, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati expressed his appreciation of how the Churches in Mizoram plays supporting roles to the governance in social works and other areas. He acknowledged the financial support doled out by the Presbyterian Churches to the tune of almost Rs 12 crore in their humanitarian efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic. He also shared his appreciation of the role played by the churches during all the elections to ensure a free and fair election within the state.

He acknowledged the unique and effective role played by the churches within Mizoram in social reformation and monitoring of the implementation of the various development programme. He firmly believed that the churches can also be very effective on an awareness campaign for various welfare schemes implemented by the central government. On sharing his experience of interacting with different sections of the society, Governor felt that a large population of the state are still unaware of all the beneficial schemes available with the central government. In this connection, he urged the church leader to play a proactive role in the awareness campaign so that the central welfare schemes will reach more beneficiaries.

In this meeting, the Presbyterian Church leadership was represented by Rev Dr Vanlalnghaka Ralte, Moderator, Mizoram Synod. The Presbyterian church leader was very pleased to learn that the head of state showed his concern for the welfare of the people of the state in general and the weaker section of the society in particular. They expressed their willingness to honour the request made by the Governor. They also made him aware that the Presbyterian Church has been actively involved in social transformation and supporting all the initiatives of the government on developmental initiatives through the Synod Social Front, an organ under the head office of the Mizoram Synod.

The Presbyterian Churches leaders also requested the Governor on tackling the issues of illegal business transactions on certain goods, Covid -19 related issues, communal harmony, the dire situation faced by the refugees inside the state, the need for more initiatives on Skill development and other important issues.
