Aizawl, the 15th November 2022: National Institute of Technology Mizoram (An Institute of National Importance, Ministry of Education, Govt of India) celebrated its 6th Convocation ceremony in the Auditorium, Mizoram University, Tanhril, Aizawl. Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, the Governor, Mizoram graced the Convocation as the Chief Guest. Prof. S. Sundar, Director & Chairperson, Board of Governors, National Institute of Technology Mizoram presided over the ceremony.
Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, in his Convocation Address briefly shared his teaching experience and engineering background to stress how much he appreciated the hard work needed to put in by engineering students to get degrees. He congratulated the successful students and their parents with a reminder that graduation days are the end of one chapter and the beginning of another which is even more challenging.
Governor advised the engineering graduates to think big, and dream about endless opportunities. He stressed the importance of being curious to grow and improve their knowledge and also the usefulness of exploring the opportunities that life offers. The Governor also felt that Science and technology is extremely important for achieving New India as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He believed that India needed more and more knowledgeable leaders of science background with innovative ideas to propel India forward to greater success and prosperity. On the importance of Data Science, he said, “Data science is increasingly playing a critical role as a research tool. For example, in astronomy, it is helping to identify new stars and galaxies. In materials science, the field of Big Data analytics is helping to design new materials that are transforming how people live and work around the world’.
He also advised the students that they must strive to work for the society in large and contribute toward innovation, entrepreneurship, and start-up which he suggested is the need of the hour to align ourselves for nation building. At the 6th Convocation ceremony, 158 students were awarded degree certificates for successful completion of various programmes which included 121 students of Bachelor of Technology, 26 students of Masters of Technology, and 11 students of Doctor of Philosophy.
For the graduating students, National Institute of Technology Mizoram had a remarkable 70% placement, with highest placement for the students in the branch of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The students who were eligible and opted in for placements have been placed with leading organizations like Larsen & Toubro, Infosys, Vedanta, Samsung Electronics, Alstom, Deloitte USI, 314e Corporation, ThoughtSpot, Albatronix Consulting, Info Edge, Valiance Solutions, Tata Consultancy Services, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Publicis Sapient, Tata Power, Anheuser-Busch InBev GCC, Cogoport to name a few. The highest package for B.Tech graduates for the academic batch 2018-22 was 17 LPA.
Prof. S. Sundar, Director, National Institute of Technology Mizoram has initiated several awards namely, ‘Institute Blues’ for B. Tech Top Student, ‘Best Thesis’ for PhD students in Engineering and Basic Science & Humanities and Social Science, ‘Best Faculty through Research and Development’, ‘Best Officer’, and ‘Best Staff’ for administrative staff. In this connection, the felicitation of meritorious students, faculty and staff at the 6th Convocation of NIT then proceeded. It began with Praveen Akurathi from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering who received an award for ‘Institute Blues’, Surendra Kumar Patel from the Department of Mechanical Engineering received an award for ‘Best Thesis’, Prof. Ajmal Koya Pulikkal from the Department of Basic Science & Humanities and Social Science received an award for ‘Best Faculty through Research and Development’, Mrs. Lalthianghlimi Zote, Deputy Registrar received an award for ‘Best Officer’, and Mr. Benjamin Lalbiakmuana, Superintendent received an award for ‘Best Staff’. The programme memento was presented to Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati by Prof. S. Sundar, Director & Chairperson, Board of Governors, National Institute of Technology Mizoram.
