Aizawl, the 2nd October 2020: Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai had launched 3 days long Cleanliness drive by 46 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 23 Sector Assam Rifles at Mahatma Gandhi Statue, Zodin Square, Aizawl this morning. This cleanliness drive is organised to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
In his inaugural address Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai told the gathering volunteers that Mahatma Gandhi also known as ‘the Father of the Nations’ taught us by leading examples, his life-long works and actions. “Health, cleanliness and self-reliance are some of his invaluable ideals and teachings that the whole country is aspiring to achieve. In the spirit of Gandhi’s teaching, co-operation is the key and everyone’s participation is vital to attain ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’”, he said.
A short inaugural function of Assam Rifles’ Cleanliness drive was chaired by Brig Vinod S, SM, VSM, Commander, 23 Sector AR. Media persons & Col Viplav Tripathi, Commandant 46 AR along with officers from AR had also attended the function. After the short function Assam Riffle jawans and officers followed the suit and joined the Governor by sweeping the road with brooms. Jawans and officers of 46 Assam Rifles will continue the cleanliness drive, which was actually started yesterday till tomorrow to commemorate this year’s Gandhi Jayanti.
