As part of the Honorable Prime Minister’s ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa – 2018”  campaign, Project Pushpak along with ICFAI University undertook cleanliness drive in different locations of Aizawl from 15th September to 2nd October.  On the culminating day, a cleanliness drive was organised along NH-54 at Thuampui. Hon’ble Governor Shri Kummanam Rajasekharan also participated in the campaign while a special function was organised at Rajat Auditorium to commemorate the event. 

Chief Guest Shri Kummanam Rajasekharan in his speech said that Indians got freedom under Gandhiji but his dream of a clean India remains unfulfilled till date. He said India being a developing country is plagued with various social issues and that stressed cleanliness drive was the best start of eliminating social issues from the society and promoting growth of the country. He said that all citizens of the country need to participate in this cause with a spirit of nationalism and the success of cleanliness mission will bring a big change in India. The Governor also said that cleanliness has been a way of life for the people of Mizoram and the State can become model for other States to emulate.

Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. (Dr.) AK Misra, AVSM (Retd.), Vice Chancellor of ICFAI University, Mizoram expressed his contentment of the collaboration between ICFAI University and Project Pushpak, which he says was a good exposure for the students to work with the armed forces. He said that the people of Mizoram have a high sense of cleanliness and community and urged those present to continue to do so. He also emphasized on the need for a healthy living in addition to cleanliness and urged the participants to look after their health.  

Brig. Birender Singh, Chief Engineer of Project Pushpak said that the Swachh Bharat Mission was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, and with him leading from the front, he said there was no doubt that every citizen will contribute to the cause. He said Project Pushpak has always been in the service of Mizoram during the last 50 years, and is now actively participating in the Government of India initiatives apart from constructing roads. He said that people entering Aizawl should feel elated as they the city, thus clarifying the reason for selecting NH54 for cleanliness campaign.

During the “Swachhata Hi Sewa – 2018” campaign, Project Pushpak organized various activities including a lecture on waste management/ waste control & hygiene and sanitation, painting competition for children from Thuampui and Best Quarter Competition for families of Project Pushpak and its allied units. 

The Hon’ble Governor also felicitated the participants from Thuampui Local Council, ICFAI University Mizoram and family members of Project Pushpak during the event.
