Aizawl 14th September, 2021: The Health & Family Welfare Minister of Mizoram Dr R. Lalthangliana launched locally produced hand sanitizer and disinfectant manufactured by a women-led startup ‘ZoPharm’ at his office chamber yesterday.

Applauding the women entrepreneurs, the Health Minister thanked them for their valuable contribution in combating the Covid-19 pandemic, and called upon the people of Mizoram to support local startups to boost the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the State. He remarked that it gives him high hope to see more and more Mizo firms coming up with innovative ideas, and succeeding in their chosen field and areas of interest.

ZoPharm is the first, and currently the only firm in Mizoram to be granted a Manufacturing License to produce sanitizers and disinfectants under the Drug and Cosmetic Act, 1940 by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Government of Mizoram. The firm currently produces WHO Formula-1 Hand Sanitizers and two types of disinfectants - Sodium Hypochlorite USP (5 % w/v) and Hydrogen Peroxide (5 % w/v). Zopharm was started in July 2021 with a vision to meet the growing demand for safe and effective sanitizers, amid increase in cases of spurious sanitizers and disinfectants being detected by the State’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The firm follows a stringent production process, right from sourcing of raw materials only from suppliers that can produce a certificate of analysis, to the products going through several rounds of in-house testing before being released in the market.

The firm consists of Managing Director Mrs Lalrinsangi Sailo, M Pharm (Biotechnology), Technical Consultant Miss PC Lalawmpuii, MS Pharm, PhD, and Consultants Mrs R. Lalawmpuii, MS Pharm, PhD and Mrs K. Thanzami, MS Pharm PhD.
