Aizawl the 24th, January’ 2022 :

H&FW Minister Dr R Lalthangliana on Saturday (22nd January, 2022) visited 5 villages - Buarpui, Kawlhawk, Sertlangpui, Lungdai S & Serte in Lunglei District to assess the ongoing Covid-19 situation, and requirements for health infrastructure & equipments in these villages. 

The Minister was accompanied by Dr Vanlalsawma Jt Director (FW), DHS, Dr SR Ngurchamliana Medical Superintendent CHS Lunglei, Dr Lalrinthangi, SMO Lunglei, other officials and party leaders.

The Minister held audience with workers of Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Sub Centres, village council leaders, & NGO leaders, and discussed with them various steps needed to be taken at the village level to combat the pandemic, guidelines under the current SOP, as well as projects in the pipeline for augmentation of rural healthcare infrastructure in Mizoram. ‘Providing comprehensive primary healthcare services is one of the key aims of the Government, and all 370 Sub Centres in Mizoram will soon be promoted to the status of Health & Wellness Centres’ he stated. He also announced that plans are underway by the Government to recruit 400 health workers and 200 nurses. The Minister also announced a 43 lakhs NABARD Project to set up a 4 bedded Covid-19 Isolation Ward at PHC Buarpui. 

Highlighting on the Covid-19 response in Mizoram, the H&FW Minister stated that Mizoram, with more than 15 lakh tests conducted so far, has one of the highest testing rates in the country, and that the current Covid death rate at 0.36% is one the lowest in the country. The state has been able to achieve this through joint consistent efforts of the Government, NGOs, Churches, VC/LC leaders and the public at large, he stated. 

The Department of Health and Family Welfare (DoHFW), Government of Mizoram with technical and financial support from the World Bank, is implementing a 280 crores ‘Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project’ (MHSSP) in the State for improving the health status of its citizens. The MHSSP intends to strengthen the management capacity and quality of health services in Mizoram. The key focus points of the project are to strengthen the effectiveness of the state health insurance programme, build synergies with the Government of India’s Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (PMJAY), and thereby reduce financial barriers in accessing hospital services, reduce out of pocket expenditure for health by poor families and expand coverage.
