Speaking on the occasion, Home Minister Pu Lalchamliana highlighted how the advent of technology has opened up the unenviable domain of cyber crimes. He said that modern technology and gadgets, while being an inseparable part of our daily lives, can be misused to perpetrate cyber crimes and hence people must be educated about the growing menace of cyber crimes. He added that initiatives such as Cyber Jagrookta Diwas are a welcome step in this regard. He mentioned that since 2020 more than 700 cases related to cyber crimes have been registered in the state.

Mizoram FSL was among 10 states selected as a pilot project to receive the Nirbhaya Fund Scheme by the Ministry of Home Affairs for strengthening its existing DNA Laboratory and establishment of Cyber Forensic Division and related facilities. The Laboratory was set up from funds to the tune of Rs. 4.19 crores which was received under the Scheme.

Mizoram FSL is among the nation’s youngest forensic science laboratories in the country and was the first in the country to introduce infrared cameras in crime scene investigations and digital cameras in fingerprint identifications. The FSL has zero pendency and has also introduced an online tracking system to assist investigating agencies. The Cyber Forensic Division will be the 8th Division under the FSL for justice delivery system.
