412/2026-2027

Dated Champhai, 6 October, 2026 : Horticulture Department Minister Pu C. Lalsawivunga today inaugurated Hnahsin Kut 2026 at Champhai Zotlang Mual. The cosmos flower festival is being held in Champhai from 6 to 16 October.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Pu C. Lalsawivunga, said that one of the main objectives of Hnahsin Kut is to promote the natural beauty, cultural heritage and traditions bestowed upon us by God through eco-cultural tourism, thereby attracting tourists. He expressed his happiness that tourists are coming to Hnahsin Kut not only from different districts of Mizoram, but also from other states and countries.

He said that Champhai District has achieved remarkable success in various initiatives. He mentioned that the Champhai Grape Growers’ Society is currently operating a winery at Tlangsam, while another good winery is located at Hnahlan. During the current year alone, Champhai Winery has produced 75,000 litres of grape wine and has already recorded sales worth approximately ₹6.54 crore. Hnahlan Winery, meanwhile, has produced around 80,000 litres of grape wine, generating approximately ₹3 crore in revenue.

Through initiatives of the Horticulture Department, passion fruit is currently being cultivated across approximately 375 acres in Champhai District, with substantial efforts also being undertaken in Khawzawl District. Recognising that processing facilities will be necessary when production increases, the government is currently establishing a Passion Fruit Processing Unit at New Champhai, which is expected to be inaugurated shortly. He further said that the government’s important ‘Zau Policy’ can be implemented successfully, as demonstrated by the successful cultivation of Zikhlum in Samthang village.

Among the four crops prioritised by the government—ginger, turmeric, chilli and black pepper—Champhai District is currently taking the lead in ginger cultivation. For the first time, the DoNER Minister has approved the establishment of a large-scale Ginger Processing Unit in Champhai District. Mualkawi has been selected as the main site, while Zotlang, Vaphai and Tualcheng have been selected as locations for the processing units. He said that this initiative will not be treated merely as an individual project but will be implemented on a larger scale in mission mode under the name “Mizo Ginger Mission.” At the Central Government level, two or three ministries will work together, while at the State Government level, several departments—including Horticulture, Agriculture, Cooperation and Rural Development (RD)—will collaborate on the initiative.

The Chief Guest also announced that, to help make Hnahsin Kut a success, the Horticulture Department has contributed approximately ₹20 lakh from the Mizo Ginger Mission fund. He further said that Mizo Ginger Day will be observed during the festival. He noted that tourists who have visited Mizoram have appreciated the beauty of the state and have not failed to recognise the kindness and hospitality of the Mizo people. He therefore appealed to the people to preserve the good qualities of Mizo culture, continue extending kindness and hospitality to visitors, and always showcase the beautiful Mizo way of life and culture. He extended his best wishes to everyone present and to all those who would continue to attend the festival, wishing them an enjoyable and memorable time.

In 2025, visitors from nearby areas and tourists had already begun arriving at Hnahsin gardens towards the end of September, even before the festival officially began. Taking all such visitors into account, the total footfall at Hnahsin Kut was estimated at around 1,20,000 people. The closing-night Mualnuam concert alone was estimated to have been attended by approximately 42,000 people.

During Hnahsin Kut 2025, sales by stall owners within the festival venue were estimated at around ₹2 crore. Revenue generated by hotels, guest houses and homestays was approximately ₹1.4 crore. The number of visitors who stayed in the area included approximately 5,100 people from within Mizoram, 805 from outside Mizoram, and 56 from outside India. The overall movement of money into and within Champhai and surrounding areas as a result of Hnahsin Kut was estimated at around ₹20 crore.

At the Hnahsin Kut inauguration ceremony, Pu Lalrinmawia Hnamte, Treasurer of the Organising Committee, delivered the welcome address. Pi Mimi Lalhminghlui, General Secretary of the Organising Committee, delivered the vote of thanks and concluded the programme.
