Lunglei District held an ‘Infant Death Review Meeting’ last Friday (22/11/2019) at the DC Office Chamber under the Chairmanship of Lunglei DC Pi K. Lalrinzuali. The meeting was attended by the concerned Government Officials and NGO leaders.

It was reported at the meeting that during the current financial year, Lunglei District has recorded 17 infant fatalities (11 male and 6 female). The Committee deliberated on each case, focusing on the cause of death, treatment received at hospital, if any, and various factors that might have contributed to these infant mortalities. The parents of 2 deceased infants also attended the meeting, recounting their experience and reporting in detail to the Committee. While it was pointed out that there was no shortfall during their stay at the hospital, the parents felt that more ASHA workers need to be posted in Lunglei District. The Chairperson thanked the parents for participating in the meeting.
