Lunglei, 23rd March, 2021: The 47th General Conference of the Mizoram Journalists Association (MJA) was held last today at the Convention Centre, Lunglei. I&PR Department Minister Pu Lalruatkima was the Chief Guest while Lunglei HPC Vice Chairman Pu Lawmawma Tochhawng was the Guest of Honour. MJA Gen Hqrs members led by President Pu Zonunsanga Khiangte as well as MJA members from all Districts of Mizoram converged at Lunglei to attend the General Conference. In all, there were 100 delegates at the Conference. The event was also attended by a few select invitees that included Lunglei DC Pu Kulothungan A, Government officials, MJA Advisors and former members of MJA.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister congratulated the Mizoram Journalists’ Association for reaching an important milestone. Stating that media is recognized as the Fourth Pillar of the Indian Democracy after the executive, legislature and judiciary, he emphasized on the important role of the press as guardians of public interest, and encouraged the media persons not to hesitate in speaking out and championing the rights of the citizens. He also advised them to maintain the integrity of the press through unbiased and objective reporting. He also sought the cooperation of the media persons in educating and creating awareness amongst the masses on various Government schemes and flagship programs. The I&PR Minister also stated that plans are underway to augment the State’s Journalist Welfare Scheme and also to finalize the much awaited Journalists Pension Scheme.

Pu Lawmawma Tochhawng and Pu Zonunsanga Khiangte also spoke at the function. 

Prominent Journalist award was conferred to 4 veteran journalists viz Pu K.Sapdanga, Editor & Publisher, Vanglaini Nitin Chanchinbu, Pu C. Dinthanga, Editor & Publisher, Lelte Weekly, Pu C. Lalzamlova, Editor & Publisher Chhawrpial and Pu B Dawpho, Editor & Publisher, The Times of Maraland, at today’s program.
