Kolasib dated 17th March 2021: A more promising variety of Rahu fish, which is a genetically improved variety called Jayanti Rahu seeds, procured under 'Demonstration in Aquaculture for Carp Culture Project 2020-21' was distributed today to 10 farmers through District Fisheries Development Office, Kolasib district, this afternoon.

DFDO, Kolasib C.Lalparmawii, while addressing the beneficiaries of the project, mentioned that Jayanti Rahu is developed through selective breeding undertaken by ICAR-CIFA and Institute of Aquaculture Research, Norway. Instructing the farmers on handling of seeds and rearing of the fish she also pointed out that Jayanti Rahu has greater growth rate than other common carps.

35,000 fish seeds which arrived from Kolkata this afternoon, were distributed to 10 farmers having a cummulative pond area of 6.5 hectares.
