Aizawl 25th April 2022: As an outcome of the meeting held between His Excellency Mr. Tipu Munshi, MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Commerce, the Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Dr. R. Lalthangliana, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of Mizoram on 23rd April, 2022, following points were discussed :

1. After careful examination of the possibility and viability for setting up of Border Haat at Silsury (India) - Sajek (Bangladesh), the Government of Bangladesh may convey formal approval through diplomatic channel.

2. In order to synchronize efforts to formalize trade on both sides, the Mizoram Governement proposed that the Government of Bangladesh may explore possibility and viability of setting up of matching infrastructure in the form of ICP at Thegamukh, adjacent to the ICP being developed at Kawrpuichhuah. Upon receipt of written request through diplomatic channel from the Mizoram Government, this proposal will be forwarded to the relevant Ministry concerned.

3. The Mizoram Government proposed that in order to upgrade connectivity, the Government of Bangladesh may consider possibility of constructing a road of 17 Kms from Chhota Horin to Thegamukh. The request from Mizoram Government will be sent to the Ministry concerned.

4. The Mizoram Government requested that Khawthlangtuipui (Karnaphuli) river may be included in one of the routes on India - Bangladesh Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade. The request of the Mizoram side would be placed to the relevant Ministry.

5. The Mizoram Government stated that the efforts will be made from the Government of Mizoram to expedite the work on the proposed 660m River Bridge that connects the two countries across the river Khawthlangtuipui/Karnaphuli. The relevant ministry of Bangladesh may communicate, upon receiving communication from the Ministry of Commerce, its position regarding the construction of such bridge.

6. It will be an endeavour of both sides to capitalize on the potentiality of a thriving border trade regime through establishment of critical trade infrastructure at viable locations.
